Contemporary Dance Technique
A native of New Brunswick, Jamie Wright has been dancing since childhood. She studied at York University in Toronto where she received her Bachelor’s degree in 1997. During this period, she worked with several artists such as Holly Small (Toronto), Kevin Finnan (United Kingdom) and Peter London (New York). She arrived in Montreal in 1999 and quickly earned a reputation as a committed and charismatic artist. From 2002-2008, she danced mainly with the company Flak/José Navas and helped create four works. During the 2006-2007 season, she joined the company O Vertigo and created Etude No. 3 pour cordes et poulies.
Since 2006, Jamie has been working closely with Frédérick Gravel and Grouped'ArtGravel (GAG). She is currently performing in Gravelworks (2008) and Usually Beauty Fails (2012). At the same time, she is a cast member in S'envoler by Estelle Clareton. She performed these works on stages throughout Europe and North America. Jamie also draws on a variety of experiences in the Montreal dance community, from participating as a dancer in the Montréal Danse choreographic workshops, to sitting on the board of the Regroupement québécois de la danse (2009-2013), to collaborating as a consultant with several choreographers. She is currently participating in research/creative projects with Caroline Gravel, Dave St-Pierre, Sonya Stefan and Dana Gingras.
As an educator and teacher, she draws on her extensive experience to continually offer classes and workshops that are relevant to the current contemporary dance scene. Jamie has been regularly teaching professionals in Montreal since 2003 and has been a proud faculty member of the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal since 2006.
