Beginning in 1985, he participated in various works and toured Canada, the US and Europe with O Vertigo Dance Company with Ginette Laurin. In 1991, he became an independent dancer. Since then, he has been sought after by choreographers of great renown, such as Louise Bédard, Sylvain Émard, Jean-Pierre Perreault, James Kudelka, Tedd Robinson, Felix Ruckert and Catherine Tardif. He has also participated in several improvisation projects with Andrew Harwood and Peter Bingham. In 1999, Mr. Boivin won the Jacqueline-Lemieux Prize, awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts.
While pursuing his dance career, Mr. Boivin began to teach at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal in 1987. Passionate about the pedagogical approach, he often teaches and does choreography in schools and universities across Canada.
