Composed of a core curriculum and offering two training options, one in classical dance and the other in contemporary dance, the program includes 720 course hours leading to an Attestation of Collegial Studies.
“We’re very pleased to see this promising and unifying project come to fruition,” says Alix Laurent, executive director of L’École supérieure de ballet du Québec. “This program is the product of an exceptional collaboration between Quebec’s major dance training institutions, and it is perfectly consistent with the Master Plan for Professional Dance in Quebec 2011-2021 put forward by the Regroupement québécois de la danse.”
Graduates of the “Teacher training program in classical or contemporary dance” will be qualified to provide practical training in dance, including training in theoretical concepts. They will be able to practice in sports and leisure establishments or advanced training schools, based on their entry profile in the program.
“We’re delighted to be able to offer this training program to dance professionals and to help consolidate quality standards in dance training,” says Yves Rocray, executive director of the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal. “This new training program is sure to generate positive and significant benefits for the entire Quebec dance community.” Drafted under the aegis of the Cégep du Vieux Montréal, in compliance with the College Education Regulations (CER) and following the framework for developing technical programs of study by the ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche et de la Science, the “Teacher training program in classical or contemporary dance” will be jointly offered with the Cégep du Vieux Montréal. The program was drafted with financial support from the ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec as well as generous feedback from the École de danse de Québec.
Interested candidates must already hold a Diploma of College Studies in danceinterpretation (561.B0) in classical or contemporary dance, or the equivalent. They must submit their application for admission directly to L’École supérieure de ballet du Québec or the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal. Applications for admission must include a curriculum vitæ, a photograph, a letter of intent and a letter of support from an employer or teacher in dance.
