Originally from Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, Sophie Carl began dancing at the age of three at the Parksville ballet school, later renamed Innovate Dance Arts LTD. Here she followed rigorous training in varieties of styles, including ballet, contemporary, jazz and tap. She spent five years at the Helix Dance Theater, a pre-professional dance company where she had the opportunity to work with many established choreographers from the Vancouver dance community. When she finished high school, she decided to move to Montreal to attend the Ecole  de dansenteporainee de Montréal to broaden her knowledge and understanding of what it means to be a contemporary dance artist. She had the privilege of working with many choreographers including Helen Simard, the La Tresse collective, Sophie Corriveau and Clara Furey. Sophie loves the physical aspect and the effort that this job requires. She is mainly interested in floor work, dynamic styles and all aspects that contribute to a performance filled with movement and life. She is currently looking for technical or performance opportunities within the professional dance community.
