Charmaine LeBlanc
Charmaine LeBlanc is an award-winning vocalist/ composer/ director whose multi-disciplinary skills have been sought after for dance, theatre, film, circus arts and television productions. As a composer, she has written and performed over thirty soundtracks for productions that have taken her all over the world. She has written music and collaborated with The Cirque du Soleil, Le Théâtre Gallelio, Les Sept Doigts de la Main and Les Gens D’R’, La Marche du Crabe and Voxtrot. She has also worked for some of the world’s most known choreographers and dance companies from Canada, the States, and Europe. Some of her collaborations have been with), Suzanne Linke (Germany) Members of The Pina Bausch Company, Danse Sauvage (Canada) Risa Steinberg of The Jose Limon Co. (New York), Gerald Casel of the Stephen Petronio Co. (New York), Milton Myers of The Alvin Ailey Co. (New York), Les Ballets du Nord, (France) Angelique Willkie (Belgium), and Vibeke Muaysa, (Denmark) to mention a few. Charmaine is currently working on a new Museum/ Dance Performance/ Installation entitled The Power of “V”. She also just completed her first short film “Forgotten Lullaby” which features the indomitable Carol Prieur and work by her long-time collaborators Marlene Millar and Pol Turgeon. Following her work on her triptych “Quarantaine”, “Quarantaine 4X4”, and “Terminus”, Charmaine performed two plays by Daniel Pennac where she both composed the music and performed the scores live. The pieces were widely performed in Quebec and in France. As one of the founding members of “The Voxtrot Theatre Company”, Charmaine had the opportunity to sharpen her composition and performance skills over a period of more than a decade alongside her collaborators, Michoue Sylvain and Mylène Roy. The company wrote and performed eight major works that received critical acclaim for their unique approaches in the marriage of text, choreography and music. Charmaine is a well-known dance accompanist and has accompanied some of the greatest dance companies/teachers and choreographers all over the world. She has worked extensively in Canada, the USA and Europe. As a vocalist Charmaine has always been interested in the extended range of the human voice. She has been awarded several Canada Council grants and grants from Le Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec that have allowed her to study with such leading vocal and movement researchers as Meredith Monk as well as members of the renowned Roy Hart Theatre.
