Shérane Figaro began her first dance lessons at the age of eight in Haiti. Her training in traditional Haitian dance enabled her to understand and master most Haitian rhythms and all their symbolism. At the same time, she completed a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Haiti) and a Master’s degree in Administration (USA).
Upon her arrival in Quebec, she continued her passion for traditional Haitian dance and enriched her knowledge of modern and contemporary dance techniques through workshops and courses in Montreal, Toronto and New York.
With her dance company Oredans, she proposes an approach that bridges tradition and contemporaneity. Her original creations of contemporary Haitian dance in Montreal are testimony to this. She has developed the Esans technique, which enables dancers to learn the gestures of traditional dances and integrate them into their work.
For several years, Shérane has sat on selection juries for the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ), and also acts as artistic consultant for various multidisciplinary cultural and artistic projects in Montreal.
