CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Choreographic creation residency:
Creation and production project – École de danse contemporaine de Montréal
Application deadline: June 12, 2024 at 4 p.m.
The École de danse contemporaine de Montréal (EDCM) launches an open call for a choreographic commission as part of Fly // Creation and production project.
This six-week residency will lead to the creation of a 30-minute choreographic work for six performers recently graduated from EDCM, selected by audition. The piece will be presented publicly in December 2024 at the Wilder-Espace Danse building, espace orange.
This project aims to promote the professional insertion of emerging contemporary dance performers.
ELIGIBILITY
• At least two years’ professional experience in choreographic creation in contemporary dance, and at least two works created in a professional context.
• Demonstrate a serious approach and a sense of commitment.
• Be available for the entire 120-hour project.
90 hours of creation spread over 6 weeks (see provisional schedule)
6 hours of sequences
24 hours for opening and performances
PROVISIONAL SCHEDULE
• Selection of performers: Friday, August 23, 2024
• Creation: October 28 to December 6, 2024
• Provisional schedule (subject to change): Monday to Friday, 2 pm to 5 pm, except Wednesday, 8 am to 11 am
• Opening: December 9 to 11, 2024
• Shows: December 11 to 14, 2024 in the Espace Orange of the Wilder Building-Espace Danse (Tangente)
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
• The School is responsible for hiring and remunerating lighting and costume design conceptors, as well as a sound technician.
• Fee: according to EDCM remuneration policy – travel and accommodation expenses are not covered
EVALUATION CRITERIA
• Relevance of project to Fly’s objectives
• Potential of the piece to reach a wide audience with a view to dissemination
• Highlighting performers’ virtuosity through the choreography
• Ability to organize work with six performers
• Feasibility of the project in the context of creation and production

1. A letter of intent including a general idea of the project (maximum two pages)
2. A curriculum vitae or biography
Complete applications – form and documents requested by e-mail – must be sent no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
Selected candidates will be invited to an interview during the week of June 17, 2024, and the decision will be rendered no later than June 21, 2024. The selected choreographer must be available for the audition day for the selection of performers on Friday, August 23, 2024 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Specializing in contemporary dance training, the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal (EDCM) has positioned itself as a centre of excellence in the Canadian performing arts community.
