SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT

Dance as a Space for Inclusion and Belonging

At the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, dance is viewed as a vibrant space for encounter and expression, open to the world and the social realities that surround it. Through community-based projects, the School creates contexts where bodies tell stories, connect, and bring people together, in line with its values of commitment, collaboration, and openness.

By developing projects rooted in Montreal’s reality that promote inclusion, expression, and community living, the EDCM creates spaces where dance becomes a language accessible to everyone, transcending words, origins, and life experiences.

It is in this spirit that, in 2026, a project combining contemporary dance and French language acquisition was developed in partnership with PROMIS, an organization that supports immigrants and refugees in their integration process. Conceived as a space for collective creation, this project invites participants to explore dance movement as a means of personal expression and sharing. Through a series of workshops, dance becomes a tool for building confidence, forging connections, and fostering a sense of belonging to the Montreal community. – Learn more

By launching these initiatives, the School reaffirms its commitment to making dance accessible and recognizing the power of movement as a catalyst for inclusion and intercultural dialogue—a commitment it is pursuing step by step, over the long term.
