Clara Urquhart

Born and raised in Ladysmith, British Columbia (Canada), on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, Clara Urquhart started dancing at the age of 8. Fascinated by the movement of others on stage since childhood, Clara aspired to train in as many styles as she possibly could, dedicating her preliminary years in dance to styles such as Graham, Contemporary, Classical Ballet, Jazz, Theatre, and Tap. Having dove into the contemporary dance world in 2017, Clara joined Dancestreams Youth Company who she performed and toured with for a year, then continued her training in Vancouver with the programs Harbour Dance Centre and Modus Operandi Link. Moving to Montreal in 2022 to attend Ecole de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal, with the support of the BC Arts Council Individual Arts Awards Scholarship, Clara has had the opportunity to work and learn from companies like Ballet BC where she performed and toured Bolero X, as well as has performed works by Ohad Naharin, Sofia Nappi, Catherine Gaudet, and Dana Gingras, further inspiring her to explore the complex diversity of contemporary dance.
Having nurtured her ambitious and versatile dance practice at intensives such as Arts Umbrella International Summer Intensive, Transformation, and Orsolina 28 Clara is now exploring the vastness of contemporary dance, and developing her personal practice of finding the harmony between dynamic technicality and intuitive movement. Graduating in May 2025 Clara is excited to step into the professional world and further explore her relationship with the technical and abstract components of the contemporary world.
