The Pont Project: A new initiative to support the transition from training to professional practice
June 18, 2026 — The École de danse contemporaine de Montréal is proud to launch the Pont Project, a new initiative designed to support its graduates as they transition into the professional world. Although artists who complete their training at the EDCM possess strong artistic and technical skills, the early years of their careers often present a significant challenge. The Pont Project was created to ease this transition by offering paid mentorship contracts within professional settings. Developed in connection with choreographers and companies from Quebec, Canada, and around the world, the project will allow graduates from the past two years to participate in creative, rehearsal, performance, and touring activities… These experiences will foster the development of their artistic practice, help them gain professional experience, and enable them to build lasting connections with the dance community. The 2026–2027 season will mark the pilot phase of the Pont Project. During this first year, the EDCM will work with a limited number of partners to establish a series of mentorship programs tailored to the realities of each established company and offering fair compensation to performers. Each opportunity will be developed on an ongoing basis, depending on the realities and projects of its partners, and will have its own selection criteria. Some may be open to eligible graduates (2025 and 2026), while others will be developed in direct collaboration with the relevant partners. Through this initiative, the EDCM reaffirms its commitment to supporting its graduates beyond their training and to contributing to the vitality of the next generation of contemporary dancers.
