The Montreal choreographer and dancer Lucie Grégoire has been pursuing her artistic research for more than 30 years, with more than 30 choreographic creations to her credit, including works for several dancers, on-site creations and solos. Her works are inspired from contact with other countries and cultures, such as the Arctic, Portugal, Spain, the Sahara Desert, Japan and Morocco. They also draw upon various artistic disciplines, including dance, music, literature, poetry and the visual arts. Known for the integrity of her artistic approach, the mesmerizing beauty of her dance and pictorial aspect of her staging, she is forging a unique path in the contemporary dance scene.
Ms. Grégoire’s works have been performed in Canada, New York, Tunisia and Japan. In the spring of 2006, she celebrated the 20th anniversary of her company, Lucie Grégoire Danse, by presenting a retrospective of her outstanding solos.
Lucie is continuing to collaborate with the Japanese choreographer and dancer Yoshito Ohno on the creation Flower (2008) and In Between (2011). Their artistic complicity was already clearly evident in 2004 in the work Eye (Montréal, Edmonton and Vancouver).
Teaching is an integral part of Lucie’s artistic research. Since 1990, she has been teaching at the Ateliers de danse moderne de Montréal, now known as the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, and regularly offers workshops and internships for dance students and professional dancers.
