For the 13th edition of Project Fly, the creation and production project dedicated to professional integration, Mark Sampson is invited to create a piece with six dancers recently graduated from EDCM.
This project allows young dancers to take part in a paid creative internship, led by professional choreographers. The laboratory will happen in Fall 2024 and will lead to a public presentation at the Les danses de la mi-chemin in Tangente.
EDCM invites 2024, 2023, and 2022 graduates to register to the audition that will take place on August 23rd, 2024.

PREVISIONAL SCHEDULE
Paid project – 120 hours
• Audition in studio: August 23rd, 2024 from 9.30 am to 12 pm (content: choreographic phrase + improv)
• Announcement of the final selection: week of August 26th, 2024
• Creation in studio: starting October 28th, 2024
• Creation schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 2 to 5 p.m., Wednesday 8 to 11 a.m. (subject to change)
• Dress rehearsals: December 9th, 2024 (schedule to come)
• Performances: December 11th to 14th, 2024, Espace Orange – Édifice Wilder-Espace Danse
About Mark Sampson
Mark Sampson, originally from Prince Edward Island, Canada, began his dance training at the National Ballet School of Canada and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. He furthered his education at the Juilliard School, where he earned his BFA and received the Martha Hill Prize for Leadership and Excellence in Dance.
Mark has danced with BJM Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal and Gauthier Dance Company// Theaterhaus. He now works as a freelance dancer, choreographer, and teacher based in Montreal. He has performed in pieces by Kyle Abraham, Camille A. Brown, Aszure Barton, Mauro Bigonzetti, Virginie Brunelle, Merce Cunningham, Sylvain Emard, Itzik Galili, Marco Goecke, José Limón, Barak Marshall, Ohad Naharin, Jerome Robbins, Hofesh Shechter, Cayetano Soto, Twyla Tharp, and Sasha Waltz.
As a choreographer, Mark has created works for the Confederation Centre Art Gallery in Charlottetown, PEI, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, the National Ballet School of Canada’s Assemblée Internationale 2013, and Concept Office in Stuttgart, Germany. His most recent work, Sword Swallower, was a site-specific piece that premiered in 2023 in collaboration with Haus Otto, an industrial design company based in Stuttgart. Following this premiere, Mark has been in residence at the Banff Centre, adapting the piece for the stage.
Mark is passionate about finding empathy within his creations, striving to tap into the diverse emotional and physical capacities that exist in our bodies.
