Alan Lake is a choreographer, performer, filmmaker, and visual artist based in Québec City. In 2007, he founded Alan Lake Factori(e), a multidisciplinary contemporary dance company that explores the intersection of dance, cinema, and visual arts, developing a raw and symbolist language where humans are in constant dialogue with their environment.
His choreographic career has unfolded across Québec, Canada, and internationally, with notable works such as Là-bas, le lointain (2012), Ravages (2015), Les caveaux (2016), Le cri des méduses (2018), Gratter la pénombre (2020), and L’effritement des parades (2021).
In parallel, Alan Lake has directed several dance films — Ravages, L’étreinte des Valkyries, and Parades — which have received awards at prestigious festivals around the world.
Recognized for his commitment to pedagogy, he is regularly invited to teach at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal (EDCM) and the École de danse de Québec (EDQ). From 2018 to 2023, he was an associate artist at the Centre de création O Vertigo.
In 2024, he received the Robert Lepage Award for his co-direction of Le Mythe d’Orphée, a groundbreaking Dance/Theatre coproduction with Théâtre du Trident. In March 2025, he will premiere his latest creation, Orpheus | S’abreuver des volcans, before embarking on an international tour.
